Why I Run with the Triple Stroller
Hi, I’m Jessica
a mother runner of 3 littles and an active-duty husband. Welcome to my corner of the active faith podcast media. I figured I would start by explaining my reason for why I push three kids in my triple stroller for about 90% of my runs and then get into other facts about me in later posts.
Most people think I have lost my mind when I say I run half marathons with all 3 of my kids in a triple stroller. Quite honestly, I agree most days, but this also brings me sanity. My husband is gone more than he is home, currently in the middle of a long deployment, so running with them gives me so much freedom on when and how I run. I also started running with my two oldest in a double stroller almost four years ago.
I run with them so they can see how important taking care of myself is, and they also get to experience all the things I do that come with a running community. When I first became pregnant with my 3rd, I said I wouldn’t need the triple. Now I have put almost 1,000 miles on said triple and currently training for our 3rd half marathon with it. This will hopefully be the big PR race.
Running with my tiny humans has also allowed me to show them how essential setting self-goals is. They know I didn’t run the race I wanted at my last half marathon, but they have seen me lace up for my runs again and get out there and push. They know the difference between a training run and a race day. They act like completely different kids on race day than on training runs.
They know how important it is to cheer your friends on to reach their goals!
My new favorite example of this was running with a friend this morning, and my oldest asked if we could be at the finish line to cheer her in from her first half marathon in 49 days, to be exact.
Running with the stroller has now only allowed me to show myself I can do hard things but set an example for mother runners that they can do hard things and that they deserve to make the time to reach goals they have for themselves outside of being a mother. We are allowed to be more than a mom. It has also taken self-work and leaning on Jesus to believe in me, but we are here.
I can’t wait to pop in, hopefully weekly (motherhood and college may prevent that), to give you bits of motivation, stroller running tips and tricks, and how to follow your goals without a considerable loss of time for the other essential parts of your life.
